As the weather is getting hotter, our skin goes through a lot of changes. And if you have naturally oily skin you’ll really dread the hot, humid weather.
As many of you know, oils produced by your body help to keep your skin healthy, but sometimes there is just a little bit too much and it can lead to pimples and acne flare-ups. Like many skin conditions, there can be many reasons. Aside from the above reasons, sometimes this increased oil production is caused by your skin regime, medications, stress, and sometimes it is hereditary. We recommend talking to our skin specialist to get a full understanding.
So where do we start?
You’ll need a gentle cleanser because harsh soaps will dry out your skin and cause an increase of oil production (they will be working overtime). We recommend cleansing both morning and night with warm water (yep, temperature affects skin too), but avoid using washcloths or puffs as they can stimulate production. oil even more! Sounds like a fine line. The ingredient you should be looking for in a good cleansers is Alpha hydroxy acid (AHAs).
The next step in your regimen is moisturising! Please don’t avoid moisturisers! Not using a moisturiser will dry out your skin and cause those pores to produce more oil. We recommend oil-free products, particularly gels. Don’t feel you have to put the same amount of moisturiser all over your skin, put slightly less on those extra oily parts.
Our newest service offering is Skin Needling! We’re very excited about this because it is only very new in Australia and your favourite celebrities in Hollywood use it to get rid of their skin flaws. Sessions at AAA Skin Solutions are only $148.00.
Here is a little about skin needling:
What are the Benefits?
The benefits of micro-needling are a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Eclipse Micropen™ also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin.
What areas of the body can I treat?
Eclipse Micropen™ can be used on all parts of the body; Face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
How is the procedure done?
A sterile needle-tip containing 12 tiny micro-needles is attached to the Eclipse Micropen™. Your skincare professional will apply a thin layer of topical gel to your skin and select the appropriate treatment depth based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
What does it Feel Like?
The feeling associated with the Eclipse Micropen™ is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating needle tip reduces discomfort while the applied hydrating gel also makes the treatment more tolerable.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure takes 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
What is the downtime?
Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin.
The total healing time depends on the depth of needles used and the number of overlapping passes your skincare professional performs. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Some patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours. Utilizing the Eclipse Skin Revive System™, or other quality skincare products, provided by your skincare provider, can help to speed up the healing process.
When will I see the results?
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
How many treatments will I need?
Some patients only require a single treatment, once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6 week intervals.

A few weeks ago on our Facebook page we asked what your top skin concerns were. We got a great response and wanted to give you some hints and tips to help. So here are your top skin concerns and along with what you can do and how we can help:
Wrinkles are a major concern for many women as the years go by. The important part of managing wrinkles is understanding what causes wrinkles: As many know, sun damage is to blame for 90 per cent of damage to your skin (regardless of your complexion). Second to that is smoking as it damages the skin’s collagen, and then air pollution – all those toxins in the air can affect your skin by breaking down the vitamin E.
Of course, the natural process of aging can’t be stopped, but it should be noted that as skin ages it loses the ability to defend against the above nasties.
What we can do: AAA Skin Solutions has a range of wonderful topical products, and of course treatments such as micro-dermabrasion and IPL. We offer free consultations to discuss your concerns.
What you can do: Wear sunscreen, take care of your body and avoid stress.
Dark circles and bags under eyes
Many women suffer from dark circles and bags under their eyes. These can have a number of causes, so it is important to look into it. In some cases, these are hereditary but in other cases there may be medical issue including nasal congestion, your monthly cycle, an allergic reaction or a kidney infection. We suggest popping into see your GP to double check. Outside of that, it could be your diet, lack of sleep, lack of water or too much time in front of the tv.
What we can do: We have some great topical products great for the under eye area, the ingredient to look out for is Q10. We suggest Synergie Practitioner Revitaleyes Eye Treatment Serum.
What you can do: Ever heard the saying, ‘you are what you eat’? It’s very true. Make sure you have a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. Also, we suggest taking some time away from the tv screen.
Pimples aren’t just a concern for teenagers, many men and women have acne problems of varying degrees even into their later years. They are usually caused by sebaceous glands becoming infected with bacteria causing them to swell up.
What we can do: We can assist with microdermabrasion sessions once you have been to see a skin specialist. All acne is different.
What you can do: Healthy diet and follow the skin regimen prescribed to you.
The texture of your skin is affected by a number of things including sun damage, acne, rosacea, eczema and various medical conditions. Even being prenant can change the texture of your skin. No one’s skin is perfect and there is no point being jealous of those celebrities who look picture perfect in the magazines your read, those photos go through a long retouching process before we even see them! However, there are a few things that can be done to make the texture of your skin look much better.
What we can do: Microdermabrasion sessions get rid of all those dead skin cells resulting in gorgeous smooth skin. We also have great scrubs, sun screens and moisturisers good for evening out that texture.
What you can do: As with many skin problems, eating a healthy diet is part of the solution, as is a good skin regimen that includes using a scrub containing AHA. We recommend Aspect Exfol L 15 (Exfloiating Serum). Also, get a good sun screen and keep your skin hydrated.
We’d love to hear from you about your skin concerns so feel free to drop us a line.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), has the capability to enhance skin elasticity, promote synthesisation of collagen proteins and improve skin texture. IPL laser treatments are fantastic for skin rejuvenation, hair reduction, pigmentation, freckles/age spots, broken capillaries, rosacea and acne scarring.
So how does it work?
IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with colour (chromophores) in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area. IPL systems are different to lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colours) in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. Most IPL systems use filters to refine the energy output for the treatment of certain areas. This enhances penetration without using excessive energy levels and enables targetting of specific chromophores (these are skin components that absorb light).
IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (epidermis). The results are not as dramatic as ablative resurfacing where both the dermis and epidermis are injured to produce a much more noticeable overall outcome. The advantage of IPL therapy is its minimal downtime – a patient can often have the procedure done in their lunch break and return to work immediately afterwards.
Restylane topical skin care products are well-known in the United States, and they are working their way slowly onto the Australian market. While the original products are are dermal fillers and injections, Restylane have made a range of topical products for use at home. They work really well to balance out your skin hydration levels and create a healthy, protective skin barrier.
Like I always say, these products should be used in combination with a healthy diet to really bring out your natural glow. The products themselves really nourish and rejuvenate your skin as they are kind to the natural structure and constitution of your skin.
I recommend these products for those looking to start the anti-aging process and take excellent care of their skin on a daily basis.
We offer these products from the Restylane skincare range:
The recent sunny (and unseasonally warm) weekend, as well as the Ekka, prompted me to think about sun screen. I think sun protection gets left by the wayside during the cooler months because a lot of people think the sun’s rays aren’t as strong, and all the cloud makes it easy to forget.
Without sun screen, I feel naked. For the last 25 years, there have been very few days where I haven’t put sunscreen on my face at the very least – the days I didn’t wear sun screen were the days I didn’t leave the house.
Your skin is so important and not only does unprotected sun exposure prematurely age your skin, but it also increases your risk of skin cancers. A recent study showed that 42% of the population get sunburnt at least once a year. Yikes!
So here are some easy sun protection tips for looking after your skin all year round (not just in summer!):
#1 Wear sun screen: even if your body is covered up, at least put some on your face and the back of your hands. This will ensure your skin is not harmed when you walk around outside. There are some great moisturisers out there with SPF 15+ and 30+. Remember: check the expiration date on the container.
#2 Accessorise: wear a hat – whether you’re out in the garden, shopping at the markets or having a coffee with friends, a stylish hat will protect you from the sun and make you look fabulous.
#3 Stick to the shade when you can: no sun screen protect your skin 100% so avoid being out in full sun for too long.
#4 Fake it: if you must have a tan, faking it is the safest option – even tanning beds are not good for your skin.
Keep that skin healthy!
